Just saw on the WCC website, they are holding a press conference to announce locations for the upcoming bball tourney. They are even streaming it live for free
starting at 10:00 am tomorrow on their website wccsports.com Hope they stay in vegas.

Let's hope it stays in Vegas for a while. What I heard from someone close to the situation is that the WCC Tournament will certainly be there this upcoming
year, but the option for an extended contract was up to the decision of the presidents of each school. If the conference wants to put itself on the map, I
would hope that Vegas would become a long term deal. We will see.

It should be pointed out the the "sell-out" in '09 was ALL due to Gonzaga fans. Kind of embarrassing actually. So thre rest of the league, including Santa Clara, needs to step it up to get fans and students there. Hell, pay for buses to get them down there or charter a cheap Siberian airline. I would have thought more people would have jumped at the excuse to go to Vegas, but apparently not. There are all kinds of factors in play (lack of rabid fan bases other than the nothing-to-do-in-Spokane-but-watch-hoops contingent, finals for students, large chasm between Zags and everyone else, SMC with a wobbly Mills, etc., etc,. etc.), but, it was a great time and the perfect place to host. |
