I thought the most telling part of Wilner's blog was this bit in the Stanford

I have my own problems with Wilner but in this case his comment isn't a "rip," it's reality. Based on his interview with The Santa Clara,
Rahon seems to think he has a shot at playing, presumably PG, at top-flight school like Georgetown. To which I also say: Best of luck. I didn't see him
display any wondrous PG skills in his time here. God knows we could have used them.
Maybe KK was a flaming jerk to Rahon. Maybe Rahon is a flaming jerk. I don't know. But the kid got all the minutes he could ask for -- in his freshman year -- and a green light, and it still wasn't enough for him. Bottom line is, he bailed and, at least for me, I haven't found any reason to feel intense sympathy for him yet. Sadly I think reactions here still reflect feelings about the whole DD departure. There are some who will never be able to think of KK as anything other than The Evil One. |

I read this site but don't post, but I could not take the hypocrisy anymore.
Everybody should lay of Rehon as there is a complete double standard going on here. Last year when the University and Keating ran four players out of the program the argument was that the coaches were doing what was best for the kids and letting them know the kids would not play so they might want to transfer. Everyone was just fine with the program not being loyal to those kids. Those kids made a commitment to SCU and SCU ultimately de-commited to them. Don't give me the blather about honoring their scholarships either. Those kids wanted to play basketball and commited to SCU for four years and the coaches job is to make them better. You coach the players you have, you don't spend your time trying to get rid of players you don't want to coach. Now Rehon decides that its in his best interest to transfer and everyone is incredulous and questioning his motives and rationale and is down on the guy. It does not matter why he chose to do it since HE has to decide what his best for him. Just like SCU can chose to turn its back on players, the players should have the right to turn their back on SCU--its only fair. Thats why SCU should pay his spring quarter and give him a release regardless of where he wants to transfer to. The kid did not commit a crime, he did not steal anything or kill anyone. All he did was make a personal decision and the athletic department is treating him like he is a criminal. Very hypocritical in view of how SCU has conducted its basketball progrmas the last few years. |

SF Chronicle - James Rahon | #8 | ||
|
I saw this in the SF Chronicle today... Interesting quote from Rahon, especially if you read between the lines.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/04/16/SP021732NU.DTL&hw=rahon&sn=001&sc=1000 -- Guard James Rahon, an All-WCC freshman team selection who announced last month that he will transfer from Santa Clara, said Wednesday that he'll go on official visits to Georgetown and San Diego State and unofficially visit Cal in the next three weeks. He said Notre Dame, UNLV and UC Santa Barbara are still showing interest. "I can't do this again, so I'm looking for a coaching staff and a program I can really trust and really believe in," Rahon said. |

NewAgeofBronco,
You are correct, I should post less often. Your comments did make me wonder what kind of insight you have provided to the board. I went back and checked your most recent posts. Can I just say right now, thank you for blessing us with your insight and knowledge of the game.
NewAge post for 12/26/08 Can I just say how much I hate our "alternate" home jerseys
NewAge post for 11/26/08 KK was looking great and very intense.
NewAge post for 11/27/08 I was very impressed with KK the entire game. He looked like a big time coach out there.
NewAge post for 11/26/08 for the most part Santos played really well
NewAge post for 11/27/08
Santos' job was to be a defensive stopper against Budinger- who at least in the first half, had nearly no effect on the game. Chase is a future top-10 NBA draft pick and for Santos, basically a freshmen, to hold chase to 24 points is a great, great defensive effort.
From what I can tell. You think Santos is a really good player, you really like the way Keating looks and you may or may not be studying Fashion Design at Georgia Tech.
Thanks again. |

Rahon's quote today (not Wilner's restatement of the mistruths from KK and staff) is beginning to provide greater insight on why Rahon is really
leaving. Rahon said, "I can't do this again, so I am looking for a coaching staff and a program I can really trust and really believe in." It
is very clear that Rahon had a problem with the basketball program. And why wouldn't he? The freshmen, as I commented all year, were mistreated by KK and
company. The first half of the season, every game lost was because of the freshmen. Alumni/Fans repeatedly posted on this site that KK was demeaning to the
freshmen during games. We also certainly don't know what goes on behind close doors but based on KK's behavior in public, I can only imagine the
worst. How else do you explain seven payers leaving the program in two years. And yes, Petty was required to leave the program some time ago and KK is not
man enough to address it publically. Why, because more discussion about transfers could impact recruiting not to mention the distaste amongst the alumni.
For me, I respect the decision Rahon has made though it is a big loss. There are not many players in the country that would pass up the playing time and success Rahon would have had simply by staying put at SCU. Plenty of minutes and plenty of points were in his future. How many of us would have walked away from the large salary and mega bonus from an unethical company, a boss that was a jerk, or from a job you hated but the money was good? Not many if any. Instead it appears it was more important for Rahon to play for a program that he could be proud of. Not because of playing time but because of the character of the program. In the end, KK is on the hot seat and he knows it. After losing the player of the year, KK will endure his third losing season in a row next year. If the pieces do not appear to be coming together for his fourth year, look for more transfers (Thompson, Alexander, a JC player to be named later, and even the glue Santos) after next season. KK will have no seniors leaving after the 2009/10 season and big expectations are expected in 2010/2011. My guess is that KK will again underachieve and will be looking for his next recruiting job. Perhaps Rahon will put a good word in for him at his next stop. |

SCU 85,
SCU85-3/9/09 Now if we can only get Salinas and St. Francis added to the WCC we'll be in business. didn't have time to sift through the rest of your "insightful" postings....but this is a really great suggestion! Should I find the WCC comish's contact info for you, or did you learn enough at SCU in the 80's to do that yourself? Thanks again! :-D |

SCU85, your response was extremely childish and unnecessary. But if we are nitpicking and criticizing past posts, let me join in. Maybe we should point out
your incessant man-crush on Rahon? Better watch out though; bbjunkie is stroking the kid's ego just as hard as you are. You three softies could learn a
thing or two from one another. Anyway, I'll come back in 2 years when Rahon is riding pine whereever he goes...will you still be around when I rub it in
your face?

"playing" (or not playing).
