I was able to attend two games and watched 5-6 games on the tube. My sampling lends to these reviews:

Bryant, excellent progress and will continue to get better. If he gets some help thus relieving pressure to do all the scoring for the team his performance will rise. I am still convinced the defensive attention he drew was the main reason Sean Dennison was POY in '07.

Brody, rarely have I seen a player maximize his abilities to the extent of Brody during his career. Even though his skills were best suited to be a distributor and not the main scoring threat he really stepped up. Once could not have asked for more.

Henke, had a nice uptick in his game the last month and ended career on a good note. Interesting that with the vacuum in scoring after John and Brody that he was not a greater offensive factor from the beginning of the season.

Dowdell, great intensity and nose for the ball, a real grinder in the Bronco tradition. Will be a solid contributor go forward but needs major work on offensive skills to increase his level of contribution.

Gunderson, great 3 point set shot but failed to see any other discernable D1 skill sets. Not a good ballhandler, cannot penetrate at all, is a liability on defense. I am not sure how much more he will play if next years' recruits are as advertised,.

Johnson, Almost a carbon copy of Gunderson with a touch more quickness. I almost fell out of my chair when he actually tried to go to the basket vs. Gonzaga in the tourney. Basically a team like St. Mary's can get by with a shooting guard ala Todd Golden (no penetration, no creation, wide open 3's are only weapon) but the Broncos can't.

Latimore, saw some quickness and offensive potential. Was too unsure of what he was doing and should be much better next year.

Zimmerman, unfair sampling as I saw him at St. Mary's (6 turnovers in 5 minutes) and against the Gaels at SCU. That was the game Keating tore into him when he was stripped near midcourt. Seems to have skills but has to realize it is D1 and get stronger, play harder, and protect the ball.

Tiedemann, too small a sampling

Higgins, slow but usually pretty effective. Not sure why he did not play more but could have been conditioning and injuries. Did not play much for Dick Davey either.

Mnabugo, gave it an effort but I cringed every time he touched the ball. Not a D1 player.

Next year should be quite interesting with most likely six new players seeing significant time (Thompson, White, Rahon, Foster, Trasolini, etc.), I would expect the Broncos to get off to a rough start with all the Freshmen and new players but by the end of the year they should be quite formidable.

In regards the Davey analysis: He definitely did not get anywhere near the proper resources to raise the level of the program. That being said, but there was somewhat of a reciprocal lack of pressure (to win from alumni, etc.) attached to the limited resources. It most likely was a fairly comfortable job (relative to other D1 schools). Unfortunately the dynamics changed in the last two years and what happened happened.

It is totally unfair to call him a mediocre coach because he did all he could with what he had. But in regards compensation, resources etc. versus the past expectations and pressure of this D1 coaching job it probably was not as unfair as some would think.
