Monday, April 06, 2009
Payne started more games than any other Citrus player during the 2008-2009 season and averaged just under a double-double with 9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. More importantly was Payne's prowess on the defensive end, where he led the team and was Top 10 in the State with 79 steals. Joining Payne on the All-State team was sophomore Justin Johnson, who earned 1st team All-WSC honors and All-State Honorable Mention honors. Johnson led the Fighting Owls, averaging 12.5 points per game on 52.3% shooting from the field. Along with Johnson, sophomore Steven Bennett was also named a 1st team All-WSC selection. Bennett averaged 10.7
points and 4.1 assists per game. Citrus also put three Fighting Owls on the All-WSC Honorable Mention list, with sophomores Mark Dorsey, Curtis
Eatmon, and Kelly Johnson all picking up the honor.

Glendora, CA (Men's Basketball) -- The Citrus College men's basketball team wrapped up their second best
season in program history with a slew of post-season honors. Leading the way was sophomore Troy Payne, who was named the WSC South Player of the
Year, and an All-State selection.

Despite a slow start (just two field goals in the first four
minutes) the Fighting Owls wasted little time in jumping all over Pasadena. With Citrus holding an 8-7 lead over the Lancers with 14:55 to play in the first
half, the Fighting Owls took off on a 15-0 run book-ended with a lay-up by freshman Nathan Gibbs that gave Citrus a 23-7 lead.
