Let's hope to God that is rumor and not fact... although from my experience... to my fellow 85s or thereabouts... could you not see something like that
happening in our time? Hopefully we don't throw stuff on the floor... but if someone did and it was known who he was.. would not the punishment be swift
and brutal?

I heard this revenge rumor at the Portland game, but it involved the players. I'll chalk it all to rumor until i see something in print.
Although i'd really love to know what the h**l was in "the second shooter's" head. Any chance the kid was betting against the broncos and took the points (11 i think)? And how long until somebody does get really stupid and dress up like an **opposing** team's fan and throw something on the court? |

I was the one that originally wrote that but later edited it out. After writing it, my niece called me back and told me that it was an unsubstantiated rumor
that in fact, the campus security was called in to protect the kid on the first night so that he wasn't beaten up.
Sorry for the confusion and sloppy reporting. And yes, I agree with Thuck that a similar thing would have happened back in our day. However, I think it's safe to say that neither one of us would have been doing any of the beating. Instigating maybe, beating no. |

I'm very glad that the story proved to be an unsubsantiated claptrap; I was very annoyed with the pontifications of our 'friends' in Moraga and
suspected it was a bad case of the "telephone game." I was also concerned that if it wasn't addressed, there would only be the SMC board version.

and '85 thanks for posting the retraction ... when I read your post I went whoa !!! ... when I was stationed at Ord some troops had a blanket party for someone in our Bn. the XO and the Colonel took turns restraining each other from going after the "party-ers" nice to know that the good education our friends in Oakland adjacent enjoy allows them to overlook the value of second sourcing their material ... will be nice to see them on Monday ... |
