Posts: 80 02/21/09 21:43:50	Tags : None Came home from a nice dinner and saw the last three minutes of regulation and then overtime. With Rahon out, the Broncos lack of depth is exposed. It is painful to watch Santos out there, he is just really in above his head. Why do the Broncos stand around and not move on offense when there is still 2-3 minutes left in a game? The lead was not big enough to run the clock down. This one hurts but can be attributed to the turnover of personnel in the program. With four players transferred out (all for good reason) this is a thin team that with Rahon hurt and Decensae gone (probably for good) has walk-ons play major minutes.. Lets hope we can hang on to 4th place and give the Zags a run in the tournament.

Posts: 13 02/21/09 21:52:46	Its not the player's lack of depth, its coach (sorry, its the required title for the guy at the head of the bench...no insult to Caroll Williams intended) kk's lack of leadership and strategic insight. Much more could be said, but, the score speaks for itself!! "Vini, Vici, VAYA"! PS: The only run coach kk could give Mark Few is "to the shower". Make the change! Alumni need to step up and not let the program dawdle for 2 more years! Recruits will be lost and the future more lean...make the change!!

Remember the first half of the season with Petty, Johnson, and Santos playing major minutes and starting. That was KK's choice. Like before and now, these guys cannot get it done against even the lowly Dons. Congratulations to Foster for breaking the freshmen scoring record and great to see Traz have a big night. Bryant was Bryant.

Posts: 79 02/21/09 22:41:13	I would of had this game as a pick'em if I knew Rahon was not going to play, so the outcome is not surprising. The silver lining would be Trasolini. Traz looked great tonight. His ability to put the ball in the basket will determine how the team compensates for the loss of Big John next year. I remember when Denison started to show flashes at the end of the Freshman year and I consider Trasolini to be further along than he was. Foster and Rahon will be scary from the outside with a true PG. Any word on Alexander getting a medical redshirt? If not, I know there was a chance that he could return for the WCC tournament. A serviceable (although probably rusty) PG like Alexander combined with Rahon, Foster, Big John, and the new scoring machine that is Trasolini could at least give us a decent shot for a run in the conference tournament. Posts: 434 02/22/09 09:32:31 Moderator	It would be Traz' ability to hit uncontested mid range shots; with a healthy Rahon and a less reticent Traz,' doubling hard and early on JB becomes very difficult. It would have been more helpful if it were earlier in the season.That having been said, the offense in late game, have to get some points, half court sets is maddening. You see the same problems watching UCLA in tight games at the end, but they can get away with it more with players like Collison and Holiday. Turnovers (18 last night) continue to disrupt any consistent offensive flow More than ever, I'm taking along range approach to all this (mostly to keep me from slamming my bald pate into my laptop or TV screen): Keating is improving the long term talent level of this team. On paper, this year's and next year's freshmen are the best back to back recruiting classes SCU has seen in a long while. Keating's hardly been perfect and I'm sure he wishes he had the PP and DW schollies to give out again, but Foster Rahon and Traz have exceded expectations. I still like Thompson, especially with a another year's confidence, agressiveness and muscle. I'm confident that like his team and like CW before him, K2 will improve and learn from this season's series of gut wrenchers. I hope the paradigm shifts next season, but with a freshman and sophomore dominated team next year, I'll be happy with noticeable improvement in the offensive execution and reduction in turnovers to the longed-for 12 a game. I'm confident the defense and effort will be there; I hope a diversified and efficient offense follows. If we don't see it come together by season four, I might join the morty chorus, although, unlike morty, I'll take my medication before I post anything.

Posts: 206 02/22/09 11:47:31	Took a long time last night to get over that loss. Was at the game and it was quite the heartbreaker. First off, yeah morty needs 2 go. Getting a bit absurd...Traz looked great. The kid was shooting out of his mind. Foster looked awesome. That kid will be a major roll player for us in the coming years. He needs to put on a few lbs and get stronger, but he has some great moves to the rim and has a sweet jumper. Refs were a bit out of line calling the foul at the end of regulation on USF (before santos missed both free throws). Refs were even more out of line for calling the foul w/ .6 secs left for the go ahead free throw in OT. Was also heartbreaking watching Traz barely miss that free throw at the end of OT. Good throw by Calvin (who just pissed me off all game, btw). As stated, john was john...put up his #s and really battled down in the post...they were physical and made it real tough on him. I'm looking forward to watching these young broncos develop and grow together. I'm not writing off next season. I'm hopeful for next season. I am, however, aware that the Broncos will be very young. Because of their youth, it may take a while for them to realize their potential. I think it might take another season. Then they will be good. BTW, I actually enjoy your posts. The key is not to take them seriously; you kind of remind me of Vick "the Brick" Jacobs down here in so ca. I used listen to him & his psycho babble and get really annoyed. Now I just embrace the wierdness. I also noticed you're making new friends at DonsCentral, too.

Posts: 29 02/22/09 17:27:20	I don't like thinking about the years ahead but rather what is now. But when I think of the now, I can't help but think of the time wasted in the first half of the season. Not only would we be a much better team now, but that much further along for the years to come. All of this falls on the shoulders of KK and if you want to review his performance don't think of the Dons game last night but reflect on the first half of the season. How is it that Johnson ever started ahead of Foster? By my count it was five or six games before Foster started. Traz didn't break into the starting line-up until after his injury and after Dowdell and White couldn't get it done. How is it that Santos started ahead of Rahon for more than half the season and played down the stretch of nearly every game? And lets not forget Alexander. Troy started before his injury but KK repeatedly played Petty more minutes and down the stretch of games. Ask yourself where this team would be had these guys played together all season and how much further along they would be heading into next year. Last night, KK again says the team lost because they are young but the facts are that the team lost because the best guys are not on the court just like the first half of the year. KK's performance should be based on those facts not the loss to the Dons. With that said, I feel the most for Bryant who is left to wonder in his senior season, "What might have been...."

I feel for the fans, students, and current players! This season can be categorized as extremely disappointing and coach kk as "less than". Again, all the best in 2010-2011. Odds are Rex Walters will be in the PAC-10, perhaps UCLA, by then and kk willl not have to fear his omnipotence!

Posts: 27 02/22/09 21:25:52	The injuries are really hurting this team right now; we have no depth whatsoever because of the injuries and prior recruiting mishaps. I find it very discouraging that we basically have 1 player we can use from the prior era. Right now we are playing and practicing with 7 scholarship players. This is huge in that we can not practice effectively, having Foster, Petty, etc going up against a walk on does no good. It is hurting our development right now. I am not as disappointed as some as KK has a 2 year leash from me; he has to get in his players before we can critique. One positive has to be how good this years class can turn out to be, Foster could be the best guard since Nash and Rahon looks like a player, Alexander in the limited time we saw will surely be effective and Traz is coming along nicely. With next years class supposedly better we should be making some noise soon. It's sad that Bryant is a sr, it is a shame that he wasn't able to red shirt his freshman year to help control his weight issues. Anyway here's to making up for last year and beating Gonzaga on our home floor. Anyway else find it odd Morty is giving props to a coach who just won his 2nd league game proclaiming him a Pac 10 coach while KK at .500 is getting thrown under the bus?

Not only was it only Walters 2nd league win, but he was also dumb enough to get a Technical with the game on the line. Rawhide, As a blindly loyal supporter of Davey, I will be the first to admit that his biggest weakness was recruiting. I give Keating credit that the talent level certainly seems to be on the rise. I also think it's ridiculous for anyone to be calling for Keating's job. However, you can't say Keating did the right thing in running Gunderson and Tiedeman out of the program and then on the other hand say our lack of depth is killing us and it's all Davey's fault. If you consider that Gunderson and Tiedeman were run out in order to clear room for Petty, Santos and White. I would have to say that Keating made a serious mistake. Gunderson and Tiedeman were not world beaters but they were both serviceable backups that could have helped this year's team. Throw in Andrew Zimmerman, Ben Dowdell and Scott Thompson (all players from the previous era) and we could have had a fairly deep team. A team that could have handled injuries a lot better than what has happened.

However....i do take umbridge with the season being classified as "extremely disappointing"....One will note that the WCC coaches pre-season poll listed the broncos at 4th (and only had bryant on the pre-season first team..welcome Foster)...John Wilner picked the broncos no better than 5th (i think--couldn't find the blog)...and, SURPRISE, there they are. You can have your personal expectations, but I gotta beleive the coaches and Wilner know better than us. I don't think anyone expected a top 3 finish. How could we given the Zags depth, The Gaels and USDs talent. In fact, the season unfolded completely differently than I expected (Mills goes down; USD is in the infirmary; the rise of Portland; Foster is THE man; PP, Santos and White aren't the impact players we thought/hoped, etc. etc.), and yet, the Broncos have a chance to finish 4th (not that that matters for a hill of beans b/c it's 20 wins that gets you into the post-season). I for one, had a post labelled "Stick a fork in the season?" after the Broncos went 0-6 after the Cable Car. Shows what I know. So IMHO..the real diappointments are these build-ups (cable car, 6 game roll), shocking let downs (post-CCC east coast swing, Pepp, USF) and not being able to finish (see below).....But....gotta be honest...these swings ain't much different than my recollection of the late-CW or DD years. Crushing losses in the WCC tourney to last-place teams. No sweeping in LA. Rarely sweeping in the Northwest, etc. etc. Now, where I AM concerned is these close losses and not finishing. When final margin is five or less, KK is something on the order of 9-21 over the last two years. Now, this year is a better than last (6-9ish), but still a concern.
