Zimmermann has enrolled at Foothill Community College in Los Altos Hills, Calif. Just like when he was at Oostburg, he receives letters and calls from prospective universities inquiring about his interest and availability for the 2008-09 season. Two schools have shown great interest, but there's a snag regarding the one Zimmermann really wants to attend.

Stanford University of the Pac-10 wants Zimmermann for this upcoming season, but Stanford - along with Arizona State - were the two schools Santa Clara did not release Zimmermann to sign with because both have former Santa Clara coaches on staff.

I think Zimmerman could have been a major contributor if he was given the time. Depth up front is going to be an issue this year. D White is the only natural 3 on the roster and he isn't available 'til December. Dowdell is smart & can play small forward but his outside shot and hip surgery could be concerns. Thompson, Dowdell and Traz can play the 4, with the beeg guy at 5 [with Thompson and Traz ?as backups]. Foul trouble and injuries could create some real challenges.

I'm really curious as to what starting lineup will face Stanislaus State. Will Keating go big with Bryant and Thompson, put Dowdell at three with 2 guards? Or does he go with Thompson, Bryant and three guards til DW is eligible? Or do we see Bryant, Dowdell, and Traz up front with two guards? And which guards start? I can't remember a season with the starting line up (and a roster) in this much flux.

james rahon will start and be the 2nd best player on the team behind bryant. SCU fans you have no idea what we have in Rahon you should get excited.

Wouldn't release him to sign with Stanford? Sounds like another typical move on the part of Coonan/Keating.

85- Why should we give him a release to Stanford (can we not go a month without you babbiling some thing about how bad of a human Keating is and how Davey is the best thing since sliced bread), you commit to a school and not a coach. From the tone of this article I wouldn't be surprised if ASU and Stanford were recuriting him before we even gave him his release, which is common. This is a common thing for schools to give a conditional release it's not like Conan and Keating are the first to do such a thing which you would like us to believe. Enough with the personal vandertta stuff it's getting quite old.

I guess he'll get some solid playing time in JC ball, and perhaps end up at Stanford the following season. I'm sure by now many of the D1 rosters are "set". This young man obviously has some skill if he's being considered Pac 10 material.

Hope Rahon does pan out. Looks like he is/was a 2 star recruit and was offered by a few fellow WCC schools and Utah. Perhaps there's upside and room for growth. I would be surprised if he was the second best on the team, considering we have a solid transfer from Texas Tech and a veteran senior 2 guard already.

I don't think it is safe to jump to conclusion regarding how this whole Zimmerman thing came about. Let's wait for the true story to come out (or maybe S***ford won't let it be known), but until then we cannot assume that it was a Keating/Coonan wrong doing. Just what I think . . . and what is true

Trust me, I feel your pain, I'm equally sick of reading your garbage. The difference between you and I is that you think anything is okay as long as other schools are doing it. I, on the other hand, have always wanted SCU to be better than other schools.

How come SCU put a "Conditional Release" on Zimmerman but not on Tiedeman, Gunderson and Latimer? Is it because those 3 were told they had to leave?

Is it really one negative post per month? It seems like I only post when a player or coach is treated poorly by the school.

By my count, there are FIVE returning players:

John Bryant	Center	SR
Ben Dowdell	Forward	SO
Calvin Johnson	Guard	SR
Michael Santos	Guard	SO
Scott Thompson	Forward/Center	SO

Only 3 have significant minutes and between them they have a whopping 32.3 points per game.

Holy moly.

Anybody want to try for a glass-half-full spin on this? (in addition to Rahon props by K2fan). Looks like a rebuiling year of monumental proportions.

SCU 85... Conditional release on a 7ft-ish player with upside makes sense.... I don't think you will be seeing Tidemann, Gunner, or Latimer playing DI ball anywhere anytime soon. Hence, no need to be conditional about anything.

When someone says that they want SCU to be better than other schools one usually wants more wins and less losses, you on other hand want Santa Clara to win a moral contest. You must be one hell of a 7 year old girls soccer coach, everyone is having fun picking daisys, losing by 5, and your biggest worry is who will bring the orange slices at halftime next week. Wake up its not 85 anymore heck it is not even 95 anymore; we have big time colleges (read BCS schools) and heck even one in our own conference running "elite" talent camps where AAU coaches are brought in and paid thousands of dollars as long as they deliver the top prospect. For the little guys of the world we can sit around for that once in a decade talent find like Nash have a nice run for a year and then fade back into oblivion or we can play within the rules like other schools and start trying to recurit. Hell why do you even post here anymore shouldn't you be on the Stanford board telling them how Davey got screwed over?

Weave I will try to tacklet that one, even if Tidemann, Gunner, or Latimer were back next year would they do any good other than being extra bodies off the bench. We have one of the best players in Bryant coming back who will be an absolute force, while Brody will be hard to replace we do have some guys coming in with talent and the schedule is pretty soft in the beginning for a reason to get them experience. I for one think that anything less than .500 in league and overall will be a disappointment.

Why does the fact that he is better than the other 3 make it make sense? If the kid is transferring, he's transferring. So why do we put a conditional release on him? Is it to teach him a lesson or to screw him because he wants to leave?

there may be / is a LITTLE more to this story ... and we should know a bit more soon ... not up on ALL the NCAA regs but there seems to be a difference between being released from scholarship and "transferring" vs. leaving school and "transferring"

and my understanding is that once he enrolls somewhere else (he has at Foothill it seems) he can then "transfer" anywhere ... don't quote me yet ... will look to get some clarification ...

in any case ... it is obvious he did not want to be at SCU any longer and he was granted a leave ... my understanding is that we (SCU) are about the STUDENT in Student/Athlete and if s/he wants to be a Student elsewhere in my opinion s/he should be allowed (nay encouraged) to ... NCAA fine print not withstanding ...

Rawhide is spot on here. '85, obviously, you have some serious issues to deal with and need to try and get out of the professional victim mode. Either, go to the Stanford board as Rawhide suggests, or seek some counseling or therapy. I am sure the SCU Alumuni office could give you some referrals. I wish you luck, but I for one am tired of your Davey got screwed nonsense. It was time for you to move on from this along time ago.

I thought this thread had run its course, as talking with Rawhide is like talking with a youthful brick wall. However when an authority at moving on, like Dogman, chimes in perhaps I should listen. Out of curiosity Dogman, are you still living in a tent behind The Hut hoping someone will buy your manuscript and make it a play on Broadway?

Incidentally, I went and checked my posts all the way back to April and I don't think I mentioned Davey getting screwed once. I do appreciate you guys reminding everyone though.

No, I am not living behind the Hut anymore. I moved out of there several years ago as I had a falling out with the owner. Most recently I was living in the trees outside Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, but we all know what happened there. Now, I am homeless. I think I will head back to SCU and see if there are any good spots to camp out.
