I'm sure it's not lost on anyone that despite St. Mary's greatest team in some time, they are still the 2nd place team in the conference. Gonazaga WCC bb = USC Pac10 fb. Everyone is playing for 2nd. Now I guess we see how important Angley is. Let's hope for a 1st round W.

Posts: 343 03/03/08 23:02:49 Moderator	I'm not too confident about Saturday. The Amgley-less Broncos also gives one pause about next season. Everything I read about Troy Alexander indicates that he is a tough, poised and adroit ball handler and point, but he'll still a freshman. Maybe a healthy, confdent Tiedeman steps up with with a season under his belt (he had 19 assists and only 3 turnovers during his truncated tenure), or Rahon /Foster can contribute, since both played the '1' on HS. If anything, it should have given opportunity for KK and staff to put lessor used (and those not injured) players into the game for some real time experience. KK choose not to for the Portland game (my assumption) but was forced to for this one. Perhaps this butt whipping will make them hungrier for the tournament ...

I pin 15 points of the spread on DD for not having a solid back-up point guard in the mix. (not to mention this game being a reminder of how 2-dimensional the talent pool is on this squad.) I pin 15 on KK for not preparing for the possible loss of Brody and not getting the team out to defend the three. Holy moly. I pin the last 4 on the Jerseys. I LOVE the gold and would like to see them at home (and the rest of broncoland incorporate it---damn that Levick for stripping out gold and making us look like Stanford), but they are quickly becoming the Irish's green.

As stated above, the performance really showed how much Angley means to this team. Get well soon, Brody. As for the jerseys, I can't say I agree that they're an improvement. I was/am a big fan of the clean and classy white and read colors. Instead of bringing gold back, what about expanding on black. Maybe red and black? Hopeful and perhaps stubbornly looking forward to this weekend in SD. Go Broncos!

Posts: 11 03/04/08 15:44:09	Tiedeman was supposed to be the back up point this year and was starting to become a factor when he got hurt. That's not DD's fault nor Keating's for not developing someone else. With Brody playing his full 40 minutes, the spread would have only been 20 points.

Posts: 133 03/05/08 14:38:45	Not to get to analytical, but to say that Tiedeman was "starting to become a factor" when he got hurt is quite generous. Half of his seasons total points came in the Pepperdine game when the Broncs scored a 100 points. In his starts leading up to the Pepp game, a lot of zeros in his box score while playing 20-25 minutes a game ... if you are the shooting guard, or splitting point responsibilities, you got to have more crooked numbers.

Agree somewhat...Tiedeman was nearly invisible when on the floor during the 1st half of the season but he did have a couple of decent games before getting hurt, Pepp as mentioned and also scored a few pts against SMC...it is hard to say if these were blips on the screen or a sign of more to come. Speaking of PG's...I thought Dom Johnson did a decent job against GU considering he's a freshman walk-on, and was getting his first significant meaningful minutes and on the road in a hostile environment. Yes, he turned the ball over a few times and went 0-3 from the FT line but at least he played aggressive and was able to penetrate and draw fouls against Gray who is a pretty good defender. I see a little bit of potential in him...decent size and athleticism for a PG, played decent D, ability to breakdown his defeneder...as a lefty he needs to improve his right hand ballhandling (it was pretty clear he only wanted to go left) and I have no idea if he has a perimeter game (I'm guessing he doesn't or else KK would have given him a chance earlier in the year)...maybe he can become a poor man's version of John Woolery. I'm sure KK will be working hard to develop or identify someone else who can play PG in addition to Alexander the PG...don't want to count too much on a freshman PG...we've had some good PG's over the last 15 years but Brian Jones is the only one who started as a freshmen (all the others: Nash, Bailey, Angley had the benefit of playing behind or alongside a veteran PG during their freshman year) even Jones had Garnett who could move over from the 2 guard to help out. Maybe Tiedeman is the answer, maybe Johnson, who knows but I don't think Gunderson is the answer...just not quick enough and only marginal ball handling. Playing PG also seems to limit Gunderson's scoring chances...he is better as a spot up shooter coming off of screens. Last Edited By: 92bronc 03/05/08 15:54:27. Edited 1 time.

If my memory serves me correctly, which of course, it might not, Brody started quite a bit as a freshman. He's definitely been the starter for the past 3 years. There's no doubt about that.

I wanna say it was maybe a couple of games, but not many. Bailey started almost all of them. Brody got solid minutes off the bench though. Edit: I'll third Johnson. Played aggressively, moved quickly, and drew fouls, although the shots didn't fall. He could get some solid minutes in the future.
