Sendek is Pitino guy and largely uses his defensive philosophy. On offense Sendek runs variants of the Princeton offesnse although he doesn't like to admit it.
- "What is Pitino's "System"? Simply, Rick Pitino’s system is a defense driven system in which a full-court match up press is utilized in conjunction with an unique match-up zone defense designed to confuse the opposing team’s offense via switching, control tempo and disrupt flow via steals and deflections."
It should be pointed out that the defense is often cited as very difficult to learn.
What is great about the Princeton offense is gives lesser talented teams a better chance at beating more talented teams. It's a great offense to start to turn around a program. Then, once you increase the talent level, you start to open it up a bit more as it appears Sendek has done at other stops and the scoring per game goes up. In his last year at ASU they were 5th in the P12 in points per game (notedbly 1 spot behind another Princeton offense - Oregon State).
Other good Sendek reading on what to expect. ""Listen," Van Gundy said Wednesday. "Herb is a very serious guy. You're not going to share a lot of belly laughs with him." "Herb can coach with anybody. I was with him at Providence College, so I've seen it first-hand.
